Top 10 Things You Shouldn't Forget When Moving (but You Probably Will)

Are you planning to move soon? Did you rent a new apartment, bought a new house or are going to college and living in a dorm? Then you probably already have a long list of things you intend to take with you – but there are some things that you will most probably forget about and only remember them once you actually need them. To help you with your big move, we’ve prepared a list of top 10 things you shouldn’t forget – you’ll need them soon!

#1: Toilet paper

This one seems like a no-brainer, but you’d be surprised how often people forget about it. Sure, you can use paper tissues, paper towels or even paper napkins – but there’s nothing worse than running to the bathroom only to realize you forgot to buy toilet paper, is there?

#2: Toothbrush and toothpaste

Another thing we often forget – and while you may be able to go to bed without brushing your teeth, going to work the next morning without first getting rid of your morning breath is definitely not something you’d want to do – and we’re sure your co-workers would agree.

#3: Extension cords

It’s one of those things you always need – but always forget. However, once you want to plug in your laptop, your cell phone charger and your vacuum cleaner at the same time, you’ll need at least a couple of them, so make sure to pack them before moving or buy them ahead of time.

#4: Cutlery

You’ve finally moved, you put everything in its place and now you want to have a nice dinner to celebrate. Oops, haven’t you forgotten something? Cutlery will come in handy if you actually want to eat a meal like a human being, so make sure you pack some or buy it if you’re moving in your own place for the first time.

#5: Kettle

Sure, you can boil water in any pot, but it’ll take ages, so a kettle is truly something you’ll want to pack or buy as soon as you move into a new place. Whether you’ll want a nice cup of tea to relax after a long day, your morning coffee to kick-start your day or some hot water for a soup, you’ll surely appreciate its speed and handiness.

#6: Duct tape

Duct tape is probably one of the best inventions of the human race and you won’t be able to go without it when moving. You’ll need it already when you’re packing up to move, and you’ll surely need it again once you get settled into your new place. Get a couple of different types to help you with everything you need.

#7: Scissors

Scissors are another thing that you think you can go without – but as soon as you start unpacking your boxes, opening packages or simply tearing open your new-found treasures you’ll realize you were wrong. So, if you don’t want to use your teeth or a knife to perform the above mentioned tasks like a cave man, get a pair of scissor and make your life easier!

#8: Cleaning products

Cleaning is probably the furthest thing from your mind when you’re moving into a brand new place, but trust us – you’ll need all the cleaning products you can get your hands on. Stain remover, dish washing detergent, window cleaner, washing powder – these are just some of the things you’ll need during your first days at your new place.

#9: Pen and paper

You’d be surprised by how often we forget to pack something this important! Whether you’ll want to make a shopping list, jot down the measurements of your room for your new furniture or simply draft a to-do list, you’re going to need to write some things down, so make sure to pack a couple of pens and a few pieces of paper.

#10: Pegs

This one seems obvious, right – but it’s not! We bet you probably forget about them all the time when you go on vacations, so why should things be any different when you move? However, it’ll be pretty difficult to hang your clothes without them (especially if you still want them to be there in the morning), so do yourself a favour and pack some pegs right away.
