9 Yummy Ideas for a Healthy Breakfast

Are you used to waking up in the morning and running out the door without eating something first? And no, that cup of coffee doesn’t count – no matter how delicious it is. You really should start changing your habits … A good, healthy breakfast can significantly improve the quality of your day, help you maintain a healthy weight and keep you energized until lunch time. And no, it doesn’t have to be oatmeal or eggs every day – we’ve got some great ideas that will make your mouth water!

Whole-wheat toast with mustard and avocado

Simple, delicious and full of nutritious stuff that will make your body happy! Simply toast the toast, spread mustard over it, then top it with avocado slices. And to make things even better, add a soft-boiled egg to the mix to create the perfect breakfast dish.

Berry smoothie

All smoothies are good for you, but berries are especially delicious and if you’re trying to lose some weight you’ll be happy to hear that they don’t contain too much sugar. Simply mix together your favourite berries (fresh or frozen, it doesn’t really matter), add some milk (or yoghurt, if you want a heartier meal) and drink it up.

Banana bread

The perfect choice for busy mornings – all you have to do is get a slice and you’re good to go! You can bake your banana bread on weekends and enjoy it all week long, and if you want to add a dose of protein, cover it with a nice teaspoon of peanut butter for additional flavour.

Savoury oatmeal

We know, we said no oatmeal – but this is different, we promise! Savoury oatmeal is a great way to enjoy your oats in a whole new role, and it’s delicious too! Simply cook your oats with water and add a pinch of salt and pepper. Add stir-fried red peppers, spring onions and chopped walnuts, and top it off with a sunny side up egg. Sprinkle with cheese and your perfect breakfast is ready.

Warm fruit bowl

But fruit bowls are supposed to be cold, right? Wrong! If you like your breakfast warm, try this delicious idea! First of all, spread your favourite berry mix across a large pan, sprinkle it with cinnamon and stir well. Bake it in the oven for 20 minutes, remove from the oven and pour into a bowl. Now all you have to do is add some chocolate shavings (if you want to – but who doesn’t!) and pour over some milk, and you’re good to go!

Savoury breakfast muffins

Muffins are great for breakfast, but sometimes you just don’t feel like eating sweets in the mornings … Well, savoury muffins are perfect for moments like this. You can make a whole batch during the weekend and then enjoy them on weekdays. Beat a couple of eggs, add chopped cheese, bacon and spinach, season to taste, then pour the mixture into a muffin tin and bake for about 20 minutes.

Yoghurt and fruit parfait

Classy, delicious and super-healthy – what else could you wish for in a breakfast? First, mix together yoghurt (you can use Greek yoghurt if you want to add an extra protein kick into the mix), almond butter and honey, and layer this mixture with your favourite fruit and nuts. This is so easy to make and it’s also a great choice if you’re hosting brunch, as it looks simply amazing.

Broccoli and sausage casserole

This is another wonderful dish that you can make in the evening to enjoy in the morning – and if you prefer to have it warm, simply pop it in the microwave for a minute or two. The broccoli will add a vitamin kick and the sausage will provide the divine flavours you crave for. Get a large ceramic baking pan, fill it with pieces of broccoli, sausage and cheese, then cover it with a mixture of beaten eggs, whipping cream, garlic, salt and pepper. Cook until the mixture has set, then let it cool off and cut it in squares.

Chocolate and peanut butter apple bites

The perfect quick snack for your mornings! Simply cut apples into wedges, cover each with a spoon of peanut butter (or any other nut butter of your choice), sprinkle with oats and drizzle with melted chocolate. You can eat it right away or let it cool off, pack it up and take it with you wherever you go.
